Vocabulary Learning Strategies of Turkish EFL Learners: A Focus on Gender

This study aimed to (a) identify vocabulary learning strategies (VLSs) employed by Turkish EFL learners; (b) determine whether the use of VLSs varies gender. To achieve these aims, scale developed Kocaman and Kizilkaya Cumaoglu (2014) was administered preparatory school students (n=209) at a state university in Turkey. Descriptive statistics (means, standard deviations) an independent-samples t-test were used for statistical analyses. The results revealed that frequency VLS medium level. In addition, analysis sub-dimensions showed memory, cognitive, compensation, social level, while metacognitive affective high frequency. When analyzed with respect gender, significant difference seen between males females, female having higher total mean score than male students. Also, reported more metacognitive, strategies; however, no statistically gender found regarding strategies.
